SILK OBI,
NISHIJIN DISTRICT,
KYOTO
|
Can$500.
|
A A "maru obi" is among the most expensive due to it's being made on a 23" wide loom and then folded lengthwise in half, thus allowing the obi to be completely reversable.
This district in Kyoto is Japan's most famous kimono design and production area. This obi's design is that of pine, both pine cones and pine needles. This symbolizes for the Japanese long life, healthy everygreen life. The pine needles are woven with gold thread. Gold, green, and white cones appear in the design. The material is Japanese silk. It's length is 13 feet. It makes an excellent runner or can be used as a beautiful wall hanging etc.. Opened up, it can become a piece of decorative silk 23 inches by 13 feet in size. Mint condition.
