Gal01.jpgJapanese Print Gallery, Japanese woodblock prints, guaranteed original, from an old private collection including woodcut artists Hokusai, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Toyokuni, Yoshitoshi, Gekko and many others, showing Kabuki, Geisha, Landscapes, Ukiyoe, Shunga erotic, bird and flower prints plus Shin Hanga’s Hasui and Sosaku Hanga’s Kawano, all located in a Nova Scotia Gallery by the ocean.

Provenance

Each woodblock print purchased from the Haynes-Paton Collection comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, dated and signed with our red seal of authenticity along with the following provenance.

"I, Rev. Thomas Haynes-Paton, of Barton, in the County of Digby and Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, do hereby certify that you have purchased an original Japanese Woodblock Print from the Haynes-Paton Collection, and that said Japanese Woodblock Print has been verified to be printed from the original blocks.  The Haynes-Paton Collection is a private collection of Japanese woodblock prints, art and antiques purchased by me in Japan during my residency there from l965 to l985.

From l959-61 as an Oberlin College graduate, I taught in Taiwan under the Oberlin-in-China Shansi Teaching Fellowship after completing Yale’s Mandarin Chinese immersion course.

Two years full-time language studies in Japan led to fluency in the Japanese language. For 20 years in Japan I travelled throughout the islands and made numerous friends and relationships with Japanese art and antique specialists, while developing a serious in-depth study of Japanese Woodblock Prints.

These Asian language and cultural studies allowed me to participate in the preparation and publication of books on oriental antiquities with Tokyo Author and Scholar Yu-Kwan Lee.

The community development and human rights work which I did while residing in Japan, through the United Church of Christ in Japan, enriched my studies of Japanese art and antiques, by allowing me to observe the integration of these objects into the practical lives of the people.

When I acquired an object of art it was with a clear and direct connection with the owners; thus museums and major collections around the world have acquired art from the Haynes-Paton Collection with guaranteed good provenance."
